Pogo Stick Badge

The Pogo Stick badge allows players to quickly go back for another block attempt upon landing. It is in the Defensive and Rebounding category of badges.

Pogo Stick is a great badge for paint defending builds, as it helps you get some bounce underneath the rim for blocks and rebounds. However, it most effective maxed out or not used.

Recommendation: If you get caught jumping on defense, it’s a great idea to get this badge on at least Gold for the ability to recover quickly. It is one of the best Interior Defensive badges in the game.

Pick Pocket Badge

Pick Pocket is back for NBA 2K20 and increases the chances of a steal and reduces the chances of a foul when attempting to strip the ball from a ball handler. It also improves the chances of successful layup strips.

Pick Pocket, especially on higher levels, has been a top-notch badge in the past few years. And while it’s entirely possible to steal the ball without the badge, we recommend putting a few defensive badge points into this useful badge.

Off-Ball Pest Badge

The Off-Ball Pest badge is new for NBA 2K20, and makes players more difficult to get past when playing off-ball, as they can grab and hold their matchup and don’t get their ankles broken as often.

This badge is actually extremely effective in 2K20, especially as off-ball defender, as it allows you to slow down the person you’re guarding off-ball and also drain their stamina.

Recommendation: This badge is far from necessary, but it’s really awesome when used correctly. Not only can you frustrate your opponent when guarding off-ball, but you can drain their stamina and lock them down.

Bronze is enough to get enough off-ball bumps, but Gold or Hall of Fame is where you’ll be a demon off-ball defender. This badge is effective in any game mode.

Moving Truck Badge

The Moving Truck badge is new for NBA 2K19 and makes players more effective pushing opponents out of the post while playing defense.

Moving truck is most effective against post scoring centers, but has little benefit if your center or wing is rarely getting backed down in the post down low.

Recommendation: If you’re playing a Post Scoring Center, we’d throw on at least Silver Moving Truck. However, you will not need it against most big men, as they rarely try to back your player down in the post.

Lightning Reflexes Badge

The Lightning Reflexes Badge is new for NBA 2K20 and gives the defender an advantage to read where the ball handler is going in the Read and React System (the arrows underneath the ball handler).

Despite some claims that this badge helps defenders move quicker on defense, these have largely been debunked. Lightning Reflexes simply helps you know where the ball handler will be going earlier.

Recommendation: We don’t recommend Lightning Reflexes for any build, as its benefits are sparse and there are many other defensive badges that will help you with perimeter defense.

Defensive Leader Badge

The Defensive Leader badge lifts the defensive ability of teammates when on the court. Also, at the Hall of Fame level, can see potential shot percentages of opposing players.

This badge raises all your teammates’ defensive attributes +1 on Bronze, +2 on Silver, +3 on Gold, and +4 on Hall of Fame, in addition to being able to see the opposing team’s shot percentages.

Recommendation: We don’t see a benefit to the attribute boosts, especially if your teammates already have low defensive stats, so we recommend this badge on Hall of Fame for the shot percentages or forgoing the badge altogether.

Chase Down Artist Badge

Chase Down Artist is back for NBA 2K20 and boosts the speed and leaping ability of a player when he is chasing down an offensive player in anticipation of a block attempt.

This badge is one of the most effective badges in the Defensive category, as it allows you to recover quickly on defense for a block and hedge more on defense. Check out these clips:

Intimidator Badge

The Intimidator badge is new for NBA 2K20 and makes  offensive players have less success shooting when contested by players with this badge. This badge also boosts the shot defense rating when tightly guarding an opponent.

Intimidator is one of the most effective badges in 2K20, as it causes missed layups and dunks in the paint and decreases the chances of full-bar makes on the perimeter.

Recommendation: Big Men should max out Intimidator, while Perimeter players would benefit from having it on some level. If you’re strapped for badge points, we’ve found that Silver Intimidator is still super effective.

Heart Crusher Badge

Heart Crusher is a new badge for NBA 2K20 and gives an additional penalty to the opposing player’s takeover meter when your player successfully blocks or steals the ball from them.

While this badge is far from necessary, it make be a good place to throw a few extra defensive badge points. While we are unsure about the exact penalty that is given, it might be significant enough to limit the opposition’s chances at Takeover.

Box Badge

The Box Badge is new for NBA 2K20 and strengthens a player’s ability to effectively box out opponents in anticipation of a rebound.

We recommend maxing the Box badge for Rebounding-primary builds, as it will help you keep the opposing players away from your boards. A high strength rating and this badge on Hall of Fame will make it difficult to go around your player in the trenches.
