The Best Defensive Badges for Centers and Big Men

Centers and big men are typically the focal point of a team’s defensive effort, so properly allocating your badges is important for anchoring your team’s defense.

And after using and analyzing the Defensive badges in NBA 2K21, the following are the top 5 Defensive badges for Big Men.

5. Pogo Stick

Pogo Stick isn’t as broken as it was in 2K20, but it’s still an effective badge to guard the paint. It allows you to quickly recover from jumping and allows you to quickly jump again.

We’d recommend it on Hall of Fame for Defensive builds, but it’ll work effectively (just not as well) on Silver for non-defensive builds.

4. Rim Protector

Although most Big Men builds have a higher block rating, swatting shots is difficult without the Rim Protector badge. It gives you the boosts you need to block shots down low.

Bronze Rim Protector is fine for builds with a lower number of defensive badge points, but we’d recommend it on Gold or HOF for Defensive Big Men.

3. Brick Wall

In addition to anchoring your team’s defense, you’ll probably be setting screens for your team’s ball handler. Brick Wall is going to be the badge you’ll need to effectively do so.

In addition to strengthening the effectiveness of your screens, Brick Wall helps drain the energy of defenders, making it tougher for them to recover. We recommend it on the highest level if you plan on setting a bunch of picks in any game mode.

2. Rebound Chaser/Box

Snagging boards is another job of the Big Man on the defensive end, and you’ll need this combination of badges to rebound effectively.

We recommend Rebound Chaser on the highest level for any big man build, and Box on Gold (for defensive builds) or Bronze (for non-defensive builds, you could even get away with it on defensive ones, too).

1: Intimidator

The best interior defense badge in NBA 2K21, Intimidator allows you to alter an opponents shot from simply being in the area. And if you jump, there’s almost no chance the other team gets a bucket.

We’ve found that Intimidator on Silver is enough for all Center builds, though some people swear by it on higher levels. What’s important, however, is that you have this necessary badge to defend the interior.

Best Defensive Badges for Guards

“Defense wins Championships” rings true in NBA 2K21. If your player clamps up your opponent, chances are you’re going to win most games in NBA 2K21.

And to play your best defense in NBA 2K21, you’re going to need the help of the Best Defensive Badges for Guards in the game this year:

  • Clamps: The Best Defensive Badge for Guards. Stops blowbys, kills your opponents’ stamina, and allows you to frustrate your opponents on every possession. A must-have for every player.
  • Intimidator: Make Shooting More Difficult for Your Opponent: Limits the amount of whites your opponent makes, increases your shot contest, and allows you undersized player to play decent interior defense.
  • Interceptor: To Wreak Havoc in the Passing Lanes. Allows you to get some goofy steal animations in passing lanes and make your opponent pay for bad passes.
  • Pick Dodger: Avoiding Murder on Brick Wall Screens. An under powered badge that you still need if you don’t want your player to fall down every time you get screened (which is like five times per possession).
  • Off Ball Pest: Underrated and Underappreciated. Stops the movement of your opponent off-ball and drains their energy. Can literally kill any off-ball movement and force bad passes and turnovers.
  • Defensive Leader: If You’re in the Sharing Mood. Far from necessary, but helpful to your teammates (via stat boosts) and yourself (opposing teams’ percentages) if you have a lot of defensive badges.

There are plenty of other badges that will help your guard play top-notch defense, but the above ones are the ones that we have found most effective – and that you should definitely equip on your player.

Pick Dodger Badge

The Pick Dodger is back for NBA 2K20, and improves a player’s ability to navigate through and around screens while on defense.

Pick Dodger is again pretty weak, as players with the badge at all levels still get sucked into and stuck on screens. However, one thing we have noticed is a decrease in energy lost on screens when using Pick Dodger.

Recommendation: While we can’t recommend Pick Dodger for any player, many competitive players still use it to varying degrees of success. However, we recommend the following method to dodge picks:

Before running into a screen, release both the left and right trigger and proceed to follow the player you-re defending. You should avoid the bad screen animations a solid majority of the time.

NBA 2K20 Defending and Rebounding Badges: A Complete Guide

Box: Strengthens a player’s ability to effectively box out opponents in anticipation of a rebound.

Brick Wall: This badge makes it tougher for a defense to get through or around screens. Players hit by contact from a brick wall lose more energy than normal.

Chase Down Artist: Boosts the speed and leaping ability of a player when he is chasing down an offensive player in anticipation of a block attempt.

Clamps: Defenders have access to quicker cut off moves and are more successful when bumping or hip riding riding the ball handler.

Heart crusher: After successfully blocking or stealing the ball from an opponent, an additional penalty is given to the opposing player’s takeover meter.

Interceptor: The frequency of successfully tipped or intercepted passes greatly increases.

Intimidator: Offensive players have less success shooting when contested by players with this badge. Also boosts the shot defense rating when tightly guarding an opponent.

Lightning Reflexes: Gives the defender an advantage to read where the ball handler is going in the Read and React System.

Moving Truck: Players are more effective pushing opponents out of the post while playing defense.

Off-Ball Pest: Makes players more difficult to get past when playing off-ball, as they can grab and hold their matchup and don’t get their ankles broken as often.

Pick Dodger: Improves a player’s ability to navigate through and round screens while on defense.

Pick Pocket: Increases the chances of a steal and reduces the chances of a foul when attempting to strip the ball from a ball handler. Also improves the chances of successful layup strips.

Pogo Stick: Allows players to quickly go back for another block attempt upon landing.

Post Move Lockdown: Increases the chances of a defender preventing an offensive post move from succeeding.

Rebound chaser: Improves a player’s ability to track down rebounds from farther distances than normal.

Rim protector: Improves player’s ability to block shots, unlocks special animations and gives a boost to the Takeover meter for the blocker and blocker’s teammates following a block.

Tireless defender: Allows defenders to play defense more aggressively without losing energy at the same rate as a normal player.

Trapper: When trapping offensive players, defenders are more effective at forcing pickups and turnovers than normal.

Worm: When boxed out, rebounders have more success swimming around and getting into successful rebound position.

Trapper Badge

The Trapper badge is new for NBA 2K20 and allows defenders to be more effective at forcing pickups and turnovers than normal when trapping an opponent.

This badge is pretty effective, as it triggers an animation after you force a ball pickup and makes the ball handler throw an errant pass the majority of the time.

Recommendation: Despite this effectiveness, we don’t recommend this badge for most builds. It’s more for elite defending builds, and even then there are better defensive badges.

Rim Protector Badge

The Rim Protector badge is revamped for NBA 2K20 and improves player’s ability to block shots, unlocks special animations and gives a boost to the Takeover meter for the blocker and blocker’s teammates following a block.

Rim Protector is a top defensive badge for any build with some badge points, as it unlocks a set of animations and also increases the chances of blocks at any level.

The badge works pretty well on Bronze, as it unlocks animations and allows most builds to start getting blocks. However, it does get better on higher levels, especially for defensive big men.

Recommendation: Defensive big men should max out Rim Protector, while non-defensive builds should get it on bronze. Most guards, whether defensive-focused or not, would benefit from Bronze Rim Protector.

Post Move Lockdown Badge

The Post Move Lockdown Badge is new for NBA 2K20 and increases the chances of a defender preventing an offensive post move from succeeding.

With Post Scorers (which are already rare) relying more on Hooks and Fades than Dropsteps and Post Spins, Post Move Lockdown is rarely needed for online gameplay, depsite the fact that it actually works.

Recommendation: We wouldn’t recommend equipping this badge unless there’s a high chance you play a post scorer. Otherwise, there are better badges to equip to stop inside big men.

Pogo Stick Badge

The Pogo Stick badge allows players to quickly go back for another block attempt upon landing. It is in the Defensive and Rebounding category of badges.

Pogo Stick is a great badge for paint defending builds, as it helps you get some bounce underneath the rim for blocks and rebounds. However, it most effective maxed out or not used.

Recommendation: If you get caught jumping on defense, it’s a great idea to get this badge on at least Gold for the ability to recover quickly. It is one of the best Interior Defensive badges in the game.

Pick Pocket Badge

Pick Pocket is back for NBA 2K20 and increases the chances of a steal and reduces the chances of a foul when attempting to strip the ball from a ball handler. It also improves the chances of successful layup strips.

Pick Pocket, especially on higher levels, has been a top-notch badge in the past few years. And while it’s entirely possible to steal the ball without the badge, we recommend putting a few defensive badge points into this useful badge.
